Hey Everyone

Welcome to the first of what will become a semi regular series of blogposts reviewing albus in The Vinyl Vault Library.

This time, its the latest release from David Garrett, Millennium Symphony.

I suspect that to many of you, David Garrett is not a familiar name, so lets start with a little about him.

David Garrett, a German violinist born in Aachen, emerged as a child prodigy, mastering the violin by age four and later performing with major orchestras while studying at Juilliard. His classical career, marked by technical precision and emotive performances, laid a strong foundation for his groundbreaking shift to crossover music.

Garrett’s revolutionary approach fuses classical violin with the gritty pulse of rock, pop, and electronic music, creating a sound that’s both explosive and accessible. He transforms iconic rock anthems—think blistering riffs from bands like Nirvana or Led Zeppelin—into soaring violin masterpieces, weaving in classical flourishes inspired by composers like Paganini. His performances, charged with a rockstar’s swagger and theatrical energy, captivate audiences in sold-out arenas, where he commands the stage with electrifying solos and intricate arrangements. Garrett’s genre-defying vision pushes the violin into uncharted territory, blending raw rebellion with virtuosic precision, and his innovative collaborations with rock and pop artists have redefined what’s possible in modern music.

All the tracks on Millennium Symphony are from after around the turn of the century.

Normally in a review, I would go through each track, and write a little about it as I'm listening, but this album had me so transfixed and locked into what I was listening, my notes are essentially none existent, so I'll just give you overall thoughts today.

On the heavier rock derived tracks, it feels like David is rebelling against everything a violin "SHOULD" sound like, the violin is certainly a rock instrument in his hands

David certainly shows the versatility of the violin, both in how the instrument is played, bowed, strummed, picked etc, and the different styles of each technique and the music.  From bubblegum pop through to rock anthems through to global hits this album has it all.

So which of the tracks on here is my favourite?

Well, I have 3 actually on this album, I just couldn't split them, for different reasons

I'll start where the album ends:

  • Welcome To The Black Parade [My Chemical Romance]

  • Can't Get You Out Of My Head [Kylie]
  • Seven Nation Army [White Stripes]

As Ever, I'll catch you on the flip side
